This 8th grader's UPchieve story is a testament to the platform's ability to empower students to reach their full potential. With over 100 sessions under her belt after joining UPchieve in May 2023, Raisha has not only improved her grades but also discovered a world of inspiration from our tutors.
In this blog, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Raisha to discuss her journey with UPchieve and how it's left a mark on her academic performance. Her experience goes far beyond just better grades. Raisha's enthusiasm for UPchieve has also led her to recommend the platform to her friends, showing the value it brings to her life.

How did you find out about UPchieve and what made you decide to sign up?
So I was actually studying for my Algebra 1 Regents exam and I was just looking up on Google, “what are the best programs for algebra 1?” And I think I saw UPchieve and I was like, that sounds really cool because I clicked on it and then I saw some of the student reviews. I think it was one of the websites that’s kind of safe for students, but also safe for younger people. So I thought it was really intriguing.
So I signed up and then I think I joined my first session in math and I think it was just a great math session and the tutors are so nice. They actually help you understand what problems or what questions you have and they go through it step by step. I think that’s what made me like UPchieve more than anything else I did.
What do you like about UPchieve?
I like how there are different options and there's a variety of options for you to know what you need help with. I also like that the tutors don't basically give you the answers, but they guide you to the answers so you know the answers and you know how to solve it so that helps you for future problems you're going to have.
Also, one more is that the tutors are very nice to you. It's not like they get annoyed with you if you don't understand anything. I know we just use the text box but you could still just feel the mood that they're not annoyed. They're just generally wanting to help you like with your problems or with what you're facing.
How has UPchieve impacted your grades?
It's been really impactful especially because I'm taking a specialized test right now. So, there's often the ELA part that is really, like, advanced, and so is the math. So with UPchieve, my grades went up. Before I was at ‘70s but now I get ‘90s and stuff for ELA and math.
Can you tell us about a memorable session you’ve had on UPchieve?
I think there was one session, I forgot to tutor, but I think I stayed in that session for about one hour or two hours.
I was just maybe doing a lot of ELA problems so she was explaining to me how each of the answers was wrong, and which answers were right. She also made me find the answers with her and then describe why I got that answer and why it was right.
So yeah, that was very helpful because I also saw what parts I got things wrong and what parts I should work on in terms of answering a question.
How has UPchieve changed how you think about yourself and/or your ability to succeed academically?
I think one of the things is that I tend to look down on myself because I don't understand something. UPchieve is something that makes you feel like it's okay if you don't understand but there's the way you could understand by practicing and doing more of those same questions.
What are your goals for the future? What do you hope to achieve in your academic and personal life?
I do want to be the valedictorian and perhaps get into a good high school.
And for personal, then I would want to be more confident and not like so self-aware to the point that I don't see myself defined through my strong subjects or my weak subjects.
