Best Study Apps for High School Students

It's difficult to concentrate with phones and devices always around. Social media and staying connected with friends can be distracting, leading to a lack of focus. While we often look at phones as an enemy of studying, they can actually help students learn and maintain motivation.

Phones can be very useful for students! There are so many apps for studying and learning new things. Here are just a few of my favorite study apps for students to help you succeed in school.

1. Planning Apps

In order to create and maintain successful steady habits, planning is necessary. Here are some of the best apps for studying that will help keep you on track by making studying manageable.

My study life

My Study Life is a helpful app for organizing your day. It lets you make a study schedule and keep track of assignments and any other study materials.

It helps you stay organized and keeps track of tasks and upcoming tests. This way, you don't miss assignments or forget to study for important exams, and you'll even feel more motivated to study.

My Study Life helps you study and finish assignments easily by organizing your tasks and creating a schedule, leading to success.

TodoIst

Todoist is an app that helps you manage your tasks in the form of a to-do list. This online task list is easy and helpful for managing a lot of work and making it less overwhelming. Also, this app has a built-in calendar which allows you to stay organized and keep track of upcoming assignments.

2. Mindset Apps

Being a student is stressful. It's tough to stay mentally healthy with a heavy workload and complex subjects. Here are a few apps to help you maintain a healthy mindset throughout the school year.

Headspace

Headspace is an app that provides guided meditation to clear your mind and distress. Meditation, even for a few minutes, can make you a better student, despite it seeming dull and not working.

Studying can get exhausting and mentally taxing so allowing your brain to reset is important to ensure you are studying effectively. Taking breaks from school work and stress can prevent burnout, which can cause a lack of motivation and more stress.

Bettersleep

Bettersleep is a great app for getting into a great sleeping habit. Prioritizing sleep is one of the most important steps a student can take to be successful academically.

Sleep is important for recovery. If you don't prioritize sleep, your body can't recover and perform well the next day. This can lead to sluggish behavior and a lack of concentration throughout the day.

Bettersleep helps with sleep problems using meditation or soothing sounds and monitors your sleep to make sure you get enough rest. Bettersleep allows you to recognize if you are not prioritizing your sleep and gives you the tools to do so. A good night’s rest is not just crucial for academic success but also necessary to maintain a healthy mindset.

3. Productivity Apps

Phones can pose the biggest challenge to staying productive. Yet within these devices, they possess the ability to actually stay on task. Here are a few apps to ensure you are productive throughout the day in a fun and seamless way.

Flora

Flora is perfect for you if you have trouble staying on task and often get distracted by your phone. Flora is a productivity app that creates timed study goals which if you achieve you are rewarded with a tree. If you go on social media or play a game on your phone then the tree dies.

This app is helpful as it encourages studying; the more you effectively study the bigger garden you create. You can also connect with your friends on Flora to motivate and challenge them to become more productive

Focus Keeper

Focus Keeper is an app that uses the Pomodoro technique method to help you set goals and achieve them. It sets timers to separate studying and free time to reward you for studying for an allotted time. It reminds you when to study so you don't get too distracted. You can still take small breaks while staying focused on your tasks.

4. Learning apps

The internet is the biggest source of information and can be an asset to grow as a student. Here are some apps that can teach you information helpful for school or aid you with confusing material.

Anki

Anki is the app that completely changed how I study. Anki is a flashcard app. It helps you learn by showing you small bits of new information every day. It avoids overwhelming you with a lot of new material all at once. This makes studying more approachable but also makes your retention much stronger.

Anki has many free flashcard decks on different subjects. You can also make your own decks easily to learn what you want. While the mobile app does cost money it is available for free on the web.

Khan Academy

While most students likely know about Khan Academy they may not realize how much content is available on it. For example, Khan Academy’s content can help if you are confused about a math problem and spans to information about ancient history.

Khan Academy is effective because it provides practice to test how much information you retained and tailors exercise personally. This is different than a video or a textbook because it allows you to test your knowledge and identify areas of improvement.

Duolingo

Duolingo is a fun way to learn a new language in a game-like format. When you feel like doing something fun but want to stay productive, going to Duolingo is a perfect solution.

Whether you are learning a language in school and want to improve on your own, or are starting a language from scratch, Duolingo provides you with an approach that is not too daunting or overwhelming.

Photomath

Photomath is an extremely helpful tool when you are stuck on a math problem or want to check your work. It works by using a photo of a math problem and then provides a step-by-step guide on how to solve it.

While this app can be useful to learn how to solve problems, it is important to not rely on this feature to solve your homework for you. This app should be used as a last resort thus creating healthy habits and not depending on outside applications for help.

UPchieve

UPchieve has its very own app that allows you to receive help from your phone or other mobile devices. Upchieve pairs students with certified tutors who can help 1 on 1 in a wide range of academic subjects for free. If you can't use a computer, you can still get academic help with UPchieve's features.

Final Thoughts on Study Apps for High School Students

The internet and mobile devices can be extremely useful when it comes to studying and building healthy habits. Hopefully, these apps will allow you to grow academically, manage your time, and maintain a clear mindset. Instead of wasting time on TikTok or Instagram, try using one of the recommended apps when you need to study.
