Today, we’d like you to meet Wendy. Wendy is the eldest of three siblings, and a junior at a public high school in Brooklyn. She enjoys math, and has her sights set on working as an accountant after graduating college. UPchieve interviewed her in June 2020.
Here’s what Wendy had to say about her experience with UPchieve:
“When we were in school, my math grades were at around an 80, never anything lower than a 70. But then we moved to online learning, and my grades started to go down — I got a 30% on one assignment. My teacher asked me why. She thought I wasn’t trying anymore.
Three days after school closed, I searched Google for ‘online chat tutoring’. UPchieve was one of the results I tried. My first session went great! My tutor answered quickly, drew every step on the whiteboard, and showed me additional examples to help me better understand the material.
My teacher noticed the improvement right away. I saw that UPchieve was helping too, so I decided to continue using it.
My most memorable experience with UPchieve was when a tutor made a joke as they were explaining the problem. It made the work more enjoyable, and I felt comfortable enough with the tutor that I asked more follow-up questions than I usually would.
I’ve noticed that I get my work done faster when I use UPchieve than when I have to do it alone. I also learn by doing, so getting extra examples to work on helps a lot. Before I started using UPchieve, I wasn’t getting the grades I knew I could get. Using UPchieve has helped me get my grades back to normal and improve my understanding of math.”
