How to Help Your Favorite Nonprofit on Giving Tuesday 2023

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 and has grown into an international movement that inspires millions around the world to practice and celebrate radical generosity. What began as a small group of people at a community center in Manhattan has now become one of the most important fundraising days of the year for nonprofits, with nonprofits raising just over $3 billion in 24 hours in 2022.

But in order to have a successful Giving Tuesday, nonprofits need your help! While nonprofits do need donations on this day, it’s also an important time to reach new audiences with your mission due to the viral nature of the day.

As we launch our Giving Tuesday campaign this year, read on to see how you can help us succeed. 

When is Giving Tuesday 2023?

The annual global day of giving takes place each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday 2023 will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

How Can I Help UPchieve This Giving Tuesday?

First of all, let us just stop and thank you for making it this far! We know your time is valuable, and we’re so grateful you’re willing to help spread the word about UPchieve this Giving Tuesday. 

There are several key ways you can help support us this Giving Tuesday:

1.Post on Social Media

Social media is one the most powerful tools you can use to support nonprofits at any time of year, but this is especially true on Giving Tuesday. 

Not only do many social media platforms allow you to create fundraisers to support your favorite organizations (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube all offer this!), but tagging your posts with the hashtag #GivingTuesday2023 is a great way to help nonprofits get much-needed exposure.

One of the easiest things you can do is create a short video explaining why you support UPchieve. If you’re not comfortable being on camera, try writing a quick text post. Just make sure to include an image, as most social media platforms prioritize posts with videos and images in their algorithms!

2. Email friends and family

While email doesn’t have the same open rate as text messaging (let’s be honest … nothing does!), it’s still one of the most effective tools supporters have to let others know about UPchieve this Giving Tuesday. 

If you’re not sure what to say, try using this template as an example:

This Giving Tuesday, I hope you’ll join me in supporting UPchieve, an edtech nonprofit that provides free online tutoring to students throughout the United States. 

Tutoring has been proven to help students combat learning loss and bring up their grades, but with fees starting at over $20 an hour and easily reaching over $100 for subjects like SAT prep, tutoring services are out of reach for most underserved students.

3. Become a tutor (or volunteer in other ways!)

Volunteers are vital to most nonprofits, and UPchieve is no exception. Without our volunteer tutors, we never would have been able to hit our recent goal of hitting 50,000 hours of free tutoring provided to low-income high school students across the U.S.!

Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to sign up to become a volunteer with your favorite nonprofit. At UPchieve, you can sign up to be a much-needed volunteer tutor, you can sign up for skills-based volunteer opportunities, or you can apply to join our Associate Board.

All our volunteer positions are flexible and remote, as we aim to make it as easy to volunteer as it is for students to find free online homework help!

4. Donate!

And of course, we can always use your financial support to help us reach our goal of making sure all 8 million low-income students in the U.S. have access to free, on-demand online tutoring by 2030.
